A variable-frequency drive (VFD) system is employed to independently control two 210-kW cargo oil pumps and one 110-kW tank-cleaning pump. The VFD system enables precise control of the cargo oil pumps’ discharge flow, ensuring accurate loading/unloading rates and stable backpressure. It also allows easy adjustment of the pump performance curve so that the pumps consistently operate within their high-efficiency range, thereby optimizing multi-purpose pump utilization. The system incorporates multiple built-in protection functions, including overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, overload, and motor overheating protection, and provides real-time monitoring of pump operating conditions; in the event of an anomaly, it automatically adjusts parameters or shuts down the pump to safeguard personnel and equipment. Furthermore, the VFD system can be seamlessly integrated with the vessel’s cargo-handling control system to enable fully or semi-automatic sequence control of loading and unloading operations. Once the operational steps are preprogrammed, the system executes them autonomously, significantly reducing the risk of human error.
